In addition to our scheduled professional learning workshops, ECIA NSW/ACT can provide a range of customised courses to meet your needs.
We aim to provide quality teaching, in accessible locations, at flexible times and at a reasonable cost.
We can provide customised professional learning for organisations that would like to have training workshops on site or for groups of people who have identified a specific need they would like to address.
The format for most of our courses is flexible and can be delivered over a whole day, half day or after hours during the evening. The courses can also be arranged for weekends and can be delivered in regional areas of NSW and the ACT.
Does This Child Need Help? Identification and Early Intervention
Early childhood educators are well placed to identify potential concerns with a child's development. But what should you do if you have concerns?
This training course covers:
- early growth and development
- identifying when a concern may be an issue
- what identification means
- how to raise concerns
- the role of early childhood intervention; and
- how to plan the next steps including referral
You will have the chance to discuss issues and practice strategies for raising concerns about the development of a child in your care, with parents and carers.
Training courses based on the package are offered at various locations across NSW and the ACT. The workshop can also be run in other states and territories across Australia as requested. These sessions are delivered by trainers with expertise in early childhood development and intervention. Courses run for six hours and can be delivered as one, two or three sessions.
Transition to School
This workshop provides a framework to use in planning for a successful start to school for children with disability and/or developmental delay.
Based on a community-wide approach, this workshop provides practical strategies, opportunities for information sharing and access to free social story templates and planning checklists that can be used collaboratively with families, other professionals and the chosen school, to make transition to school a more seamless process. This workshop covers:
- your potential role in transition to school
- supporting families to make informed decisions about school options and to advocate for their child
- sharing relevant information about how children learn with the new school
- activities which can help increase children's independence in preparation for school; and
- using the practical downloadable tools from ECIA NSW/ACT's Transition to School Resource via www.transitiontoschoolresource.org.au.
Practical Strategies for Inclusion in ECEC Settings
This workshop provides practical strategies for including children with disability and/or developmental delay in Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) settings. This workshop covers:
- the difference between inclusion and integration, including some case studies of what inclusion may look like in an ECEC setting
- how to make the necessary adaptations to support meaningful participation for all children
- how inclusive practice links to relevant elements of the Early Years Learning Framework, the National Quality Standard and legislation; and
- enhancing the experiences of ECEC for all children through: inclusive group and meal times; developing functional and social play; supporting children to make routine transitions and working in partnership with families and other professionals.
Understanding and Including Young Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder
This workshop seeks to build participants' understanding of autism spectrum disorder and provide practical strategies for inclusion in ECEC settings.
This workshop covers:
- introduction to sensory processing issues
- using visual supports and social stories
- supporting transitions
- positive group and meal times; and
- social play
This workshop is presented in an interactive format including large and small group discussion, sharing of visual supports, social stories and resource ideas, opportunities to talk with colleagues about case studies, plan for inclusive learning experiences and the use of role play.
Preventing and De-escalating Challenging Behaviour Positively
Early childhood professionals in early childhood education and care settings consistently rate the management of emotional and behavioural difficulties as one of their major concerns and challenges.
This interactive workshop will introduce the Behaviour Zen approach that systematically guides educators through the assessment, prevention and management of emotional and behavioural difficulties of concern. This workshop will help empower you with the knowledge and skills to confidently deal with children who frequently display challenging emotional and behavioural difficulties.
Throughout the workshop, participants will be invited to share their concerns and explore practical strategies to address the challenges they are currently facing.
